Help please from some of you computer guru's.
I am using Windows ME.
I am on Dial-up.
I am using Internet Explorer 6.0 / SP1
I am a Wincustomize subscriber level 4 user.
I use Wincustomize Skin Browser 1.10 and the latest version of SDC.
I know I need to upgrade to XP and DSL.
Two weeks ago a problem started whenever I came to Wincustomize and tried to access a web page. I would get the first Wincust page, but when I clicked another link such as Wallpaper or Windowblinds or others, I get "The page cannot be displayed".
When I hit the address "Go" button, the page would load.
Now a week later, I have to hit the "Go" button two and three times before the page will load, and sometimes that will not help.
This problem occurs using both SDC and SB, IE, and Crazy Browser.
I had been successfuly using the free versions of Zone Alarm and AVG when the problem started two weeks ago, but I un-installed those and am using a "suggested" Firewall and a new Anti-Virus and am still getting the same problem of "The page cannot be displayed".
Sometimes this problem will extend into Discussions using the Skin Browser on larger threads. This tells me that it may be a "timing out" event, but how do I know?
I do not have this problem on other Web sites.
It just happens that I am a subscriber at this site.
I have even re-installed my IE, but to no avail.
I am at my wits end with this, so any help pointing me to a fix would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you

I was having a problem like this the other day, only with many sites. I cleared the cache, and defragmented. Something helped, but maybe it was only time.

Have you tossed your cookies yet?

Yes GM, I have done the cookie thing, defragged, scan disced and everything I can think of.

Hmmm, there was a windows update that was causing problems for thousands of users that came out around 2 weeks ago where they were having trouble connecting. Don't remember the name, but there was a thread here about it; somebody else should know.

Then there is the 811493 update (I believe, somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

Never happened on another site? Might not be that but it's worth a try uninstalling.

White_Moth- if you have a pop-up killer running, exclude WC in it. In ZoneAlarm, or whatever you're using, drop the privacy settings for WC and if you have to IE. Make sure in internet options that privacy settings are set to medium.....

Powered by SkinBrowser! make sure as noted above you check update 811493 !!!!!!

I've been having the exact same thing happen. I don't have the latest Windows Updates, it doesn't matter what browser I use, or whether a popup killer is running or not......... and it's only happening here at WC. It has to be a bug, that hasn't been found yet, because it started after the main server crashed.

Thank-you everyone, I have already tried your suggestions to no avail, I do believe Wizop Koasati is correct. I cannot seem to find a solution or a correction on my end of things, but I will certainly keep listening and trying.

hmmm...that's all very odd

I have had no problems on any of the machines at work or on my home machines (that are unfortunately on dial up at the moment).

What time of day are you connecting?  Is it possible that the page is timing out?  (I see that happen a lot when I use earthlink....they kinda' suck, but that's a whole different topic of conversation....I have earthlink at home due to access numbers, but they real fail on performance....)

Anyway, i have also had problem with Norton messing with IE.  I don't know if you run Norton or not, but try disabling it and see if you can connect.  I had problems with a bunch of sites until I uninstalled Norton.  i reinstall of IE might help, too.

Really at a loss at what could be causing it on this end as the site is really the same as it was before we had the server issue.  Maybe T-man has some ideas if he reads this.

It doesn't matter what time of day, I don't use Norton, it happens here at WC with regularity, and it started after the crash. White-Moth said he has re-installed IE.

I am even using a Firewall Karma_Girl suggested I use last January when I was having so much trouble with Zone Alarm.
And yes, Koasati is correct, it doesn't matter what time of day, (although I do use Earthlink), which has not been a problem,I am at a loss as how to explain or correct it.

I've had a problem since the crash too. When posting, after clicking the submit button I get a white page with a 0 on it. I then have to hit the back button then f5 to see the post I e-mailed T-Man about this a couple of weeks ago but I guess he's still busy fixing stuff.

OK, then if it is a problem with Wincust I will be more than happy to wait patiently for it to be fixed. I just need or needed to know that it was not a problem from my end. $60.00 later and two weeks of futzting and now confirming, I think it is safe to say that it isn't a problem from my end.

I was just about ready to do an complete HD overhaul, and wasn't looking forward to that.

Just curious, has anyone figured out the problem yet?

Nope not your problem White Moth. It's not your WIndows ME, I have XP and of late it is a great deal of trouble staying connected to WC. And it's ONLY WinCustomize--no troubles with any other site. If I want to see something it takes sometimes 3...4....5...tries before I can get to the desired page. Sometimes nothing works. Then again, A LOT of times I get so frustrated and say, "to heck with it" and just go about my business.

No-- time of day or night does not matter. Norton's has nothing to do with it. I too have have tried various things, and again it's just this site, and nothing helps. I've tried other browsers. Other avenues. Nada!

Matter of factly I know of someone else who mentioned having horrendous problems as well, and again only with this site. No troubles anywhere else.

I hope it gets fixed soon whatever it is--it's frustrating.

Hey, matter of fact it DID happen to me like the other day.

I came here ok, then logged in ok, then went to the message board and couldn't connect. Was logged out and had to log back in, hit 'Cursor XP' in the library, page came up, then went to 'Iconpackager' and it wouldn't come up.

It was basically following that for about 5 minutes then I closed my IE and came back later with it never happening again.
